Building Windows

Factory Plans     Cutting Openings     Foundation   Siding   Factory   Final

Every time I ordered windows, they were backordered.

I decided to build my own.

First I created a jig to position the individual pieces of the window so I could glue them together. The pieces are made of small strip styrene.

These pieces are glued together with a slight overlap and then I frame them with some wider strips of styrene.

Finally, the exterior frames are glued on.

Next, they will be painted, and then glazed.

For glazing, I use the clear plastic from CD cases.  I’m not sure how it will hold up outside, but it is fairly thick.

From now on, I’ll be building my own windows.

Here you can see what they look like when painted and placed in the building.  I’ve added window shades.

I also created my own door as shown here.

The window on the second floor is a commercial casting.

I’ve put siding on one of the walls, but haven’t yet cut out the openings in the siding. I’ll use a knife to cut the siding, based upon the openings already cut in the plywood..
