Cab

The current cab will not hold a 1:20 person, so I decided to build my own from styrene strips. It also allowed me to create a look that was more like the prototype.

I decided to use part of the front of the existing cab.  This allowed me to keep the part that fit around the boiler, as well as the holes from the handrails and other pipes.

Doors were built up from styrene, then painted.  I added the styrene after the paint was dry.   To the right you can see the doors in place.  I applied a coat of primer to the front just to check fit and finish.

I built up the front styrene strips and sheets, while incorporating the piece I cut from the original cab.

Here’s a shot of the cab after it’s been built up and painted. I added a figure of Sherman Pippen (a ET&WNC engineer) that I bought from Richard Kapuaala at Po`e `o Honua (People of Earth). The armrest was created from Sculpey.

At this point, it’s time to reassemble the locomotive. All in all, a pretty easy conversion.
