Camel Back Bridge

I bought a Camel Back bridge kit from Garden Texture

First of all, let me say the kit is absolutely wonderful. The quality of the lumber is outstanding and the directions are great as well. If you want to cut your own lumber you can buy the plans wich are basically a full size template to build on. (I did order just the plans for the trestle I want to build, as I did not see a kit that met my needs. I did buy ready cut lumber pallets, however, and the wood is just so well cut!) Everything is cut to length, including all of the angles. You do have to bend the arch and laminate four pieces of redwood together.

I ended up buying some extra clamps.

This is the finished structure.

Rather than put sectional track on top of the stringers, I decided to put down some ties. So, I used some cedar I had ordered from Garden Texture (1/2" x 3/8") and glued those down. I had some aluminum rail left over from my indoor layout of many years ago - seemed like a good use.

I put two coats of "Behr Premium Clear Weatherproofing Wood Sealer and Finish" on it to help protect from the elements. The hardest part was just getting everything covered. I kept finding spots I missed - especially on the ties and the tilted supports.

I hand spiked the rail, just for looks!

The bridge and trestle combination.

The trestle was made from plans that I purchased from Garden Texture

I need to build abutments on both ends.  The bricks will have to serve for awhile.

I finally got around to building the retaining walls.  They look a lot better than the bricks!
