There are only a few commercial figures available in 1:20 and they’re not inexpensive.

I decided to make my own.  I used a framework built from aluminum foil and then used Sculpey for the form.  The Sculpey can be baked over and over again, so as I completed a layer, I would bake it to preserve the detail or set the shape.

For my second figure, I got a bit more creative in the pose.   I was still have some trouble getting the proportions correctly, but he looks decent from the normal viewing distance.

I posed my latest figures with a 1:18 scale model in front of my stone mill.

They look right at home.

I created an engineer figure to place inside the locomotive cab.

Next, I built a small scene for the front of my barbershop.  Two men talking while a lady walks by.

The figures add some atmosphere to my town setting.

I needed a driver for my scratch-built inspection car and created this one.  I used a frame built from brass rod and found it easier to work with than the aluminum foil.

To the right is an unpainted figure of a brakeman.  He hasn’t been clean up yet from the last baking, but he’s ready to paint.

Next is the painted version.
