After visiting Dave Goodson’s CCR, we drove down the Oregon coast to Port Orford. Along the way, we stayed at some great Bed & Breakfast places and had some great views of the Pacific.
At Port Orford, we visited with Richard and Helen Smith and operated on his Port Orford Coast line.
Besides the railroading, there was food and drink as we visited the hot dining spots in Port Orford.
Of course we had to visit Cape Blanco, the inspiration for Richard's RR logo. Naturally, it's open EVERY day of the week, except for Monday, the day we visited, so we couldn't get very close. Still, it was a pretty view.
Helen's hobby is Genealogy. While Richard and I operated on his railroad, Jean and Helen had a great time researching Jean's family.
The sun did come out for a bit, so I was able to get some neat shots as I was working through Richard's switching challenge. I tried to get him to pay me by the move - I would have been rich. The sun also helped dry us out after the first part of the session just drenched us.
Richard has built the POC on raised bench work as a way to avoid all the damage the deer did to his first ground level layout. It really puts you IN the railroad and makes it fun to operate.
Richard has a lot of his structures lit up - and they really look neat as twilight approaches.
I have built a model of a reefer lettered for the POC.
