The End

It’s January 2011 and it’s the end of the Miracle Chair Company. I had high hopes for it as I started to replace it with Buchanan Tool and Die.  It’s quite a bit smaller, but could still serve the J&B RR.

I moved it over to a spot in Occoquan, on one of my newer sidings.

I liked that it fit on the siding and I thought it would look good under the holly trees.

Looking at it, I could see that it required a bit of work to get it back into shape.

The door on the loading dock had fallen out, and some other windows had lost the muntins.  The signs had come unqlued and it looks like the roof had warped in a few places.

It didn’t look all that bad; dirty and worn down a bit after being outside for eight years, but nothing insurmountable.

The lower siding that represented a stone foundation fell away.

The windows and doors were easy to pop out as the wood that they had been glued to had rotted away.

What really surprised me was how weak the 3/8” plywood had become. I was able to easily break up each side so that it would fit in the trash bag.

There’s not much left but the styrene pieces.

I brought it inside after shaking off as much loose dirt as I could.

I turned it over to see what it looked like inside, and I saw that I now had underestimated the amount of repairs needed.  All of the plywood had started to rot - and some of it near the base had completed disappeared.   In fact, the only left in some places was the Precision Products siding.

The windows and doors looked good so I popped them out.  Other pieces, such as the loading dock, were made from styrene and showed no signs of deterioration.
